Upcoming Workshops:
November 1-2, 2025 at Senior Center in Iowa City, IA (register with the Senior Center)
These weekend workshops offer participants an opportunity to develop the basic structure for a memoir or novel idea. It is led by author and UI professor Venise Berry. Eight exercises will be completed based on time and the number of participants in the class. The class briefly explores specific writing elements like plot, subplot, scene structure, and character development.
Participants will complete a number of exercises in class and are invited to share their work in workshop sessions. One major exercise will be written outside of class between the Saturday and Sunday sessions and shared on Sunday. Whether you are just beginning or if you have already started writing your memoir or novel this workshop can help.
Plan to spend a total of 5-8 hours in class (one day or two) and another 1-3 hours writing outside of class, specifically for two day sessions between Saturday and Sunday.
Limited to 12 participants, first come first serve. Fee $250. A portion of the fee will be donated to sponsor.
